Xmas blog and stuff

Thursday, December 1, 2011

This is the big one -- THE shopping season. Forget about birthdays, anniversaries and those informal get togethers that sometimes require a gift, this is it. The one we compare to. The one where people (usually those super organized ones) ask “Have you finished your Christmas shopping?” Really? REALLY? As if it were that easy. FIrst you have to think long and hard just what to buy for that special person. Sure they may give you a list, but you’re serioius about this, you can’t buy them something off the list. That’s for rookies. And despite the fact you’re still not very good at this, you are no rookie. So you think and you think and when you’re up in the middle of the night because you can’t sleep because you are trying too hard to think, it comes to you. The perfect gift. Now you have to find the time and because it’s winter, you have to plan out your route. Then you fight the roads, the crowds, bring it home and stash it away somewhere everyone has mutually agreed to consider secret. What’s that? Wrapping? Oh that will happen -- on December 24th. Now you take a deep breath and go do it all again until the list is done.

Ahh Christmas. We all love it. Except for those who don’t. And that’s okay. We all need to hate something. And we can’t all hate the same thing. That would be so unfair to Nickleback.

So if you find yourself lost or cold and you see our humble store font, by all means come in. We will try to take away some of the pain (without booze though, so don’t ask).

What is the heck is Twitter?

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

What ever it is, it better be good, because we just joined.

Check us out on twitter.com under ‘the Wired Cup’. So far so good. We have a total of 0 followers. I think that’s a good thing. Right?

Better Coffee?

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Well, thanks to the folks at Transcend and our man Tim Talbot, our brand new SImonelli Appia has just gone in and so far so good. Or at least I think it’s good. At this point I don’t think I can drink any more espresso. Are you hands supoposed to shake like this?

More Posts, Less Whining!!

That’s it man, that is my new mantra. At least for today. Tomorrow, who knows?

So what’s new you ask? Well we’re always getting new product in. Some fun Fred stuff, some new bags from Five Left and some great outdoor and sand toys from Melissa and Doug. Add that to the crazy array of our other stuff and there is plenty to look at.

In the coffee front, our new espresso machine arrived. It will probably be a few days before it is installed and up and running, and hopefully then it will mean even better espresso for you the customer (and the odd shot for us as well). Keep low and keep moving. Maybe that can be our new mantra. Ah, so many mantras, so little time.

Winter Trudges On!!

Thursday, March 17, 2011

I think it is safe to say that we all love the changing of the seasons (although some seasons get more love than others). And I think I’ve got to stress the word ‘changing’ because it seems to have been forgotten in all this snow and cold this year. The amount of snow that has fallen is already overwhelming and yet it still comes down. I think rain or weather warm enough for rain would be a great thing right about now, but I’ve been told by the powers who know these things that we still have to wait.

Some great new stock just came in and is already looking lonely. We’ve got some new kitchen items and and kid stuff and we also have some wicked spiced peanuts and some fun candy for easter. Ann has been working away on some scarves (suitable for all occasions and seasons) and I‘m trying to pick up a paintbrush and move it around a canvas. One day Norton, one day.

Big Changes Coming

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

So what do we classify as a big change here? It could be anything from a new lightbulb to adding a little cream to our coffee. But this time here at the ‘cup’ we really are talking big (well, to us anyways). We have had some renovations done to the outside of our building (new siding, new door) and now we are adding a slick looking awning and a light over our sign. Speaking of our sign, if you’ve noticed it has gone missing, that is a temporary thing until the siding and trim are all up.

And inside the store we have finally decided to open on Mondays. So starting Monday, February 21st  (sorry about that, but after posting this, Ann pointed out that the 21st is Family Day here in Alberta -- so our first Monday will be February 28th) we will be open at 7:30. But because it’s still just me and Ann here and although we would love to be open everyday, we have to have one day off. So starting Sunday, February 20th, we will be closed on Sundays. Tit for tat as our cousins in the UK would say. So for those who came in on Sunday, sorry about that. For every one else who said, I’d love to go there, but they’re closed on Mondays, say that no more and come on down.

At last -- 2011

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Can you feel it? All those nutty 2011 vibes coming down the pipe. I am no psychic, but I have a good feeling those vibes are of the good sort. But with the end of the world coming in 2012 we should be due for at least one good year. Can you believe those Mayans? What a bunch of downers. But as my good ole Pappy told me -- you cannot believe everything you read on the internet. Ah, the internet, how did we waste all our time before it?

Just in case anyone is reading this and wondering "what is with the lack of contractions?", let me tell you, it is not an intentional thing. Apparently this new editor we have for our website will not allow me to use an apostrophe. It makes me feel rather old and stuffy.

For those who count, we are heading into our 4th year at the old Wired Cup. Four years. Wow. All that time and I have managed to say absolutely nothing on this here Website. I better not jinx that. There has been a few growing pains, some of which we are still working through. For those who have stuck with us, we really do appreciate it. It is not easy being on a side street that only a few Edmontonians know about. And if you have never been here -- come check us out. Now would be a great time as things are pretty quiet here and we do have a few sweet items on sale. We promise, we will try to be nice and the best part is we will not ask you to shovel any snow.
